GODBLESSHAZE Is Turning Revolution Into Sound

Some artists make music. Others build movements. GODBLESSHAZE seems determined to do both.

Born Joshua — derived from the Hebrew name Yehoshua, a translation linked to Y’shua — the artist’s story has always carried a sense of purpose. Raised in a Christian household with Catholic roots, his identity has been shaped by a blend of faith, history, and cultural influence that now fuels the artistic vision behind GODBLESSHAZE.

Revolution runs deep in his family lineage. He is the grandson of legendary Cape Town jazz musician Robbie Jansen, a towering figure in South African music whose work helped define the sound of communities like Mannenberg and Grassy Park. Beyond music, activism was also part of the environment that shaped him. One grandfather was involved in the workers’ union South African Municipal Workers' Union, while the other fought through music within the cultural heart of Cape Town’s communities.

Inside his grandmother’s home, the walls carried symbols of resistance, including images of Che Guevara. Surrounded by stories of struggle, creativity, and cultural pride, the idea of challenging the status quo became part of his personal code.

The name GODBLESSHAZE arrived later, during a turning point in his journey. It was given to him by Wolfgang Peterson, the older brother of Tory Lanez, during conversations about ambition and the future.

Their connection began online in 2021. At the time, the artist — then performing under the name Haze — had already released a track with HollywoodSos, another member of the Lanez family. The collaboration caught Wolfgang Peterson’s attention, sparking a creative relationship that would soon grow into something bigger.

Although Peterson initially assumed Haze was based in Canada, the reality was that he was still in South Africa. Even so, the distance didn’t stop the connection from deepening. A year later, Peterson invited him to join Wolfgang Umbrella, a creative network operating within One Umbrella. Rather than functioning like a traditional record label, the collective focuses on collaboration, artist development, and community.

It was within that environment that the name GODBLESSHAZE was officially born.

As his artistic identity took shape, so did the search for the right sound. On the path toward his debut album, multiple projects were conceptualized and eventually discarded. The breakthrough came with a song titled “City Of Lies,” which helped define the sonic direction that had previously felt just out of reach.

From that moment, everything changed.

By 2023, the foundation for a debut album had taken form — a body of work carefully crafted and refined over time. Since then, the project has continued to evolve, with layers of production and detail added in ways that might escape casual listeners but resonate deeply with those paying closer attention. Yet the music itself is only part of the vision.

Rather than following the typical release strategies that dominate modern streaming culture, GODBLESSHAZE began exploring a different concept: the idea of a “luxury album.” The goal is not simply financial gain, but the restoration of value to the music itself — treating the digital file not as disposable content but as something intentional and collectible. In a world flooded with endless releases and algorithm-driven promotion, that philosophy stands apart.

For GODBLESSHAZE, every element matters — from the sonic landscape to the language used to describe it. The vision is deliberate, layered, and rooted in a history of resistance, creativity, and cultural pride.

And if his story so far is any indication, the revolution he’s building is only just beginning.
